2. Kneadable eraser
3. Fixative
4. Sketch book (using this in class for warmup)
5. 2 pieces of cartridge paper(Drawing block paper) - DO NOT ROLL UP - but carry in portfolio.
6. Betty Edwards Workbook(ensure you've done your homework)
7. Big metal clips - 2 pcs.

DT1~ Crowbar Seminar
Tasks for the week


You will be doing a lot of self-observation and world-observation this week, by paying attention to your awareness, as well as your different modes of thinking.
1. Regardless of how much "homework" you did or didn't do, reflect on your week 1. What did you learn? How was the week for you? Was it stressful? What were the highlights of the lessons of week 1?Were you able to cope with the "overload" of tasks, especially in DT1? How did you approach the tasks? Did you manage to get it all done? If not/If so, what did you do? Do an Inner Journal to reflect on your "stressful" week 1.
2. Pay attention to how you think, throughout this week, and take notes in your Inner Journal. How aware are you in general? Make use of the ABC and the STIR & I/M FAST frameworks to capture a few moments in your life.
3. Install and use the awareness meter to see if it helps improve your focus and awareness. Would you be able to use the awareness meter regularly? What did you learn that you weren't aware of previously?
One suggestion is to imagine that you are driving a "robot" or vehicle, and the awareness meter is one instrument on the dashboard, along with a set of navigational controls. Once you install it, you can use it everytime you need to.

4. CROWBAR SEMINARS!
Here's what you should do for the Crowbar Seminars. Write a report of at least 500 words to answer these questions.
a) Take note of the work (and careers) of at least 3 speakers (from at least two sessions). What are some of the"best practices" that led them to do excellent work? What are some traits and qualities and work habits they have that propel them to the forefront of the industry?
b) Do the designed works seen here at the seminar fit with the notions of Human-Centred Design you learned in HCD? Are there additional aspects of design not covered? Are there contradictions? Please note your thoughts. What is the main role of design in these works?
c) Think about some of the different modes of thinking that may have been used to come up with some of these designs. What are some essential thinking strategies they had to use to craft these ideas? Where do the lessons of DT1, VDS and DS fit into all of this/
In all of the above questions, do take note of SPECIFIC works and examples that you can write about and later discuss in class.

p.s GREEN tomorrow, cross-dressing another day.

I guess it's because of the stress mainly- it's because that I skipped meals since yesterday morning that resulted to this. I awoke at 5 am today and threw up. I didn't make it to the loo; I tripped halfway through my bedroom door when it all came up and out. I felt slightly feverish and admittedly, tears welled up in the corner of my eyes. I am too vulnerable and fragile. There, in the dark I was, and everyone was sleeping and dreaming of what dreams I don't know but they must be good, for I could hear Dad snore and I knew brother all too well for him to not sleep well. But she was up and awake. I realised there's a person there in the dark, too, only obscured by the wooden door. I suddenly remember mom's habit of waking up real early daily, even on a Sunday, to prepare herself for prayers. Yes, mom is always there, literally...
"Mom...." I called out to her in a weak voice. She didn't hear, not too surprising for at that moment I felt that I couldn't hear myself too. I squeezed my eyes; my stomache hurt real bad and it was not too long before I threw up again. This time I felt hopeless. "Mom...!" I tried again, meekly yet she could hear me this time round. I noted a hint of panic in her voice when she answered and before I knew she was bursting out of her room and fussing all over me after seeing the vomit. I was too weak to decline any fuss, which I usually do, as she helped me up to the loo to wash myself. She stayed there and grabbed a pail and a bottle of fabuloso as she mixed water and soap together. She even wiped the puke for me and ordered me in a motherly fashion for me to eat. But I didn't straightaway. I stayed there and looked at her.
This woman here, whom birthday I had almost forgotten, whom these past few days I had been a little irate to because of the stress, who showed no crass remark when wiping the foul-ordoured vomit, this woman here I can never repay. Even when I lose myself in this journey she is always there to bring back the me that I have misplaced. I admit that I huffed at the sight of our piling assignments and did just that later in the morning but without hope this time, when mom came in the room and said in Malay "You must learn to take care of yourself. You know, humans are like cars and drivers. We are the drivers and the car's our life. Even if you hire the best driver and the best car, at some point in time they'll have to stop eventually before starting again. What will happen if they don't stop? An accident of course. Car-crash."
Mom and her analogies. They never fail to open my eyes. I felt like crying then- I know, I am a little soft inside, so yeah....
This post is to share with you guys. It's rather personal but you guys are like my family already. So work hard, but don't forget yourself. You as the driver play an important role in your own life. I know it's been a crazy week what with those mountainous assignments but like Melt said, don't die yet ok? Melt, thanks for the sweet post. It means alot. To Ashlyn, thank you for spending your time posting our assignments on this blog when you could have been doing your homework. Everyone, thanks for not being selfish =) Arigatou Gozaimasu! Together we can make it through these challenges...! :)

Hey guys! This week's been tough on you guys! Hope y'all are still hanging tough and getting ready to go, cause week two's gonna be a real mess. But this posts is just to encourage you guys. Don't give up and persever okay? Things are just tough now cause we're still adjusting to poly life and all, and i can't guarentee that things are going to be better soon, but they definitely will in the future! So don;t give up guys. To those who feel like changing courses, I urge you to think through your decision carefully... Things are meant to be for a reason.

SIDE NOTE: I have done a birthday card for the whole class so I will need all of you to pass Siuyun 60cents on Monday so that I can colour photocopy it for the whole class. The individual birthday cards will be passed around during the person's birthday and everyone can write a note for that person. Those who's birthdays are over, I'm very sorry but we just chip in the money la cause we'll be photocopying it for our lecturers as well.
